Its been great year so far and more exciting courses coming up.

It’s been a great start to 2026 with a number of fabulous courses held already at the P. Vos shed including, Half model course, Clinker dinghy Spiling and Fitting planks, Essential skills 101, Spoon Blade Oar making, Sharpen and set.

The Percy Vos shed is a wonderful space to work in and along with all the other projects going on its been a hive of activity and participants in all these course have had a really great time.

The beautiful Frostbite dinghy is coming along well and is now all ready to receive its ribs and then the fit out of seats etc.

Puke the Maritime museum steam launch is in for a refit and Sam Harkin is doing a minor refit on Nordic his lovely double ender.

Wooden Block Making and splicing with Stephen Horsley.

A fantastic opportunity to learn the skills and techniques required to build wooden blocks and to create the spliced loops required. during the weekend you will build your own small blocks to take home.

Steam bending ribs and fastening with copper nails and roves.

A one day course on selection of suitable woods and steam bending timber. during the day we will steam bend some ribs and fasten them into the clinker frostbite dinghy using copper nails and roves plus carry out steaming various samples and comparing timbers.

Essential skills 101 with John Welsford

This is a 2 day course covering all the basics you need to know to build a small plywood dinghy or carry out maintenance on your own vessel. John manages to cram a huge amount of learning into the 2 days and even experienced people will come away knowing some thing new.

Auckland Heritage Festival Guided Walk, Sunday 27th Sept

As part of the heritage festival we have organised a 2 hour guided walking tour starting from the P.Vos shed and taking in a loop of the viaduct with commentary on all the old maritime sites given by maritime historian Baden Pascoe.

The guided walking tour starts at P.Vos 38 Hamer street at 10:00 Am and will finish back at the same venue.
